Katekista Findings & Insights

from the National Catechetical (NCS) 2016-2021: Pastoral Action Research and Intervention (PARI) Project

This research monograph, entitled Katekista: Findings &
Insights from the National Catechetical Study (NCS)
2016-2021: Pastoral Action Research and Intervention (PARI) Project
, is very significant for its comprehensive, in-depth and
clear-cut assessments on the Catechetical Ministry (CM) in the Philippines. Truly, it can serve as a companion piece to Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter Antiquum Ministerium which instituted the new ministry of catechist, making this charism not just a parochial affair but the concern of every Ecclesiastical Territory (ET).

In Manus Tuas (In Your Hands)

A Handbook on Being, Becoming, & Belonging
to A Catechetical Ministry in the Philippines

with Florence C. Navidad & Jaycar P. Espinosa

It is in this light that we are heartily grateful for the publication of this highly anticipated and much needed volume, Katekista In Manus Tuas (In Your Hands): A Handbook on Being, Becoming and Belonging to A Catechetical Ministry in the Philippines. Like a true “handbook”, we hope that it will serve its purpose as a handy companion and practical guide for our catechists as they go about their journey.

Katekistang Malikhain

Mga Turong-Gabay sa Malikhaing Katekesis

with Keith Aaron T. Joven, Joan Christi Trocio-Bagaipo, Renniel Jayson Jacinto Rosales, Leonardo O. Quimson, Jr., Jonathan James O. Cañete

National Catechetical Study (NCS) 2016-2018

The Oxford Handbook of Global South Youth Studies

with Sharlene Swartz, Adam Cooper, & Laura Kropff Cause

Ninety percent of the world’s youth live in Africa, Latin America and the developing countries of Asia. Despite this, the field of Youth Studies, like many others, is dominated by the knowledge economy of the Global North. To address these geopolitical inequalities of knowledge, The Oxford Handbook of Global South Youth Studies offers a contribution from Southern scholars to remake Youth Studies from its current state, that universalizes Northern perspectives, into a truly Global Youth Studies. Contributors from across the Global South—including from Diaspora, Indigenous and Aboriginal communities—locate and define ‘the Global South’; articulate the necessity of studying Southern lives to enrich, reinterpret, legitimate, and offer symmetry to youth studies; and use Southern theory to do so. Eleven concepts—personhood, intersectionality, violences, de- and postcoloniality, consciousness, precarity, fluid modernities, ontological insecurity, navigational capacities, collective agency, and emancipation – are reimagined and ‘re-presented.’ The outcome is a series of everyday practices such as hustling, navigating, fixing, waiting, being on standby, silence, and life-writing that demonstrate how youth living in adversity experiment with and push back against routine and conformity, and how research may support them in these endeavors and, simultaneously, redefine the relationships between knowledge, practice, and politics – what the editors term epistepraxis. The handbook concludes with a nascent charter for a Global Youth Studies of benefit to the world, which no longer excludes, assumes, or elides but embraces new possibilities for representing youth, researching among them, and devising policies and interventions to better serve them.

Researching Student Affairs and Services (SAS)

The Case of University of Santo Tomas (UST)

The book is also an invitation for other universities and colleges to engage in student affairs research, something that, I fear, is sorely lacking in student affairs work in the Philippines for many reasons. I hope that the UST Office of Student Affairs' (OSA) research endeavors will inspire other OSAs to follow suit.

Batong Bahay
